In 1988 a group of nurses, doctors and other supporters met to do something about the high levels of stress and burnout among health care staff. They set up a charity, called the Didsbury Trust, to provide educational programmes and a quiet space to nurture the participants.

A fund raising campaign in 1996 led to the purchase of our own retreat space in rural Cumbria in the Lake District. A change of name to the Sacred Space Foundation followed. We now have two other residences within a few miles of each other.

Our resident directors co-ordinate a wide range of support for retreatants and day visitors - over 600 people seek our help each year. We initially focused on health care professionals, but the emotional and spiritual challenges they face affect people from many other backgrounds in just the same way.

A dedicated team of trustees and supporters monitors and guides our work.  Some have been with us since the first meetings in 1988. For more information, please click the trustees image.
